Tubular Motor vs Linear Actuator: Which Motor Fits a Pergola or ZIP Screen?

Different outdoor living components move in different ways. That is why ZIP screens and pergola louvers do not always use the same type of motor.

The movement decides the motor

A windproof ZIP screen rolls fabric up and down. A louver roof or aluminum blade system rotates or moves a mechanical linkage. Because the movement is different, the motor logic is different. Correct motor selection starts with understanding how the product moves.

Tubular motors for rolling systems

Tubular motors are installed inside a roll tube. They rotate the tube to raise or lower fabric, which makes them a natural fit for roller shades, ZIP screens, windproof screens and similar rolling products. Key selection references include torque, speed, tube size, control method and IP protection.

Linear actuators for push-pull movement

A linear actuator creates straight-line push or pull force. It is often used where a linkage, blade or mechanism needs controlled extension and retraction. Key references include force, stroke length, speed, duty cycle, voltage and IP protection.

Understanding 800N, 110-240V and 50-60Hz

A rating such as 800N normally refers to linear push or pull force, not tubular motor torque. 110-240V and 50-60Hz indicate wide voltage and frequency compatibility, which is useful for global markets such as North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Customers should always confirm whether a specification refers to torque, force, voltage or frequency before comparing motors.

RKOVE selection logic

RKOVE matches the motor type to the product movement: tubular motor logic for ZIP screens and windproof roller systems, and actuator or dedicated drive logic where the pergola structure requires push-pull or rotating-louver movement. This helps avoid confusing power labels with real application fit.

FAQs

Common questions about Tubular Motor vs Linear Actuator

Is a tubular motor the same as a linear actuator?

No. A tubular motor rotates inside a tube, while a linear actuator creates straight-line push or pull force. They are used for different movement structures.

Which motor is used for ZIP screens?

ZIP screens and windproof roller screens usually use tubular motors because the fabric rolls around a tube.

What does 800N mean on a motor label?

800N normally describes push or pull force, which is common for a linear actuator. It should not be confused with torque, which is usually used for rotating tubular motors.

Why does 110-240V / 50-60Hz matter?

It means the motor can support a wider range of international power conditions, which is useful for export projects and global installation markets.
